When we get cut, we clean the wound and find something to cover so it won’t get infected. When someone tells us to “p*ss off”, we get angry and might even respond with a delightful middle finger.

That’s it.

But what happens if you suddenly remember someone telling you that “you were a failure” when you were a child?

Children do not know how to process feelings of shame and anger, so they usually repress those emotions as a defense mechanism.

Unfortunately, years later, those bottle-up emotions may resurface as a cocktail of angry afternoons, fists on the walls, and lashes of pure ire.

These moments remind us of a time in our lives when we felt betrayed and humiliated by those we hold dear.

This is what it’s called: Freeze mode. A place where our brains seem stuck and emotions deny us a chance to process our thoughts as adults.

Everybody Freeze!

Have you ever heard of the “fight or flight” response?

If you find something you can beat: “fight”.

If you can’t beat it, then you “flight”.

If you can’t do either: You Freeze
